Indigo, A Divorce Retreat

Hospitality | 15,000 sqft | The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa in Savannah, GA| Conceptual design completed in 2020| A retreat for adults navigating life after divorce

  • Client: Mental Health America - The nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those living with mental illness & to promoting the overall mental health of all Americans.

  • User: Adults age 35 - 74, who have been through a divorce within the past two years.

  • Objective: Too often, individuals experiencing a divorce struggle to cope with the emotional upheaval that accompanies the shift from “We” to “Me.” As a result, psychological stress can escalate, impacting various aspects of their lives, including their relationships with loved ones, friends, and colleagues. This retreat offers a safe space and a valuable opportunity to heal while mourning the loss of the relationship. Participants will work on breaking down personal barriers and improving themselves. The goal of this retreat is to initiate the healing process, enabling individuals to enhance their mental well-being for themselves and their loved ones as they navigate life without that significant other.

  • Role: BFA Undergraduate Student // Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD)

  • Responsibilities: Research, Programming, Concept & Design Development, FF&E Selections

  • Software: SketchUp, Enscape, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Revit

  • Concept: In the realm of 'Protection,' there exists a fundamental action of blocking elements from entering or transitioning into various realms—be it a physical space, an individual's personal area, a life, or even a mindset. This notion of a metaphorical barrier between transitions will be evident throughout the Divorce Retreat, particularly in transition areas and entry points. Across many cultures, there is often a symbol, color, shape, or object employed to safeguard against malevolent forces or negative energy.
